!!! Where's The Beef !!! Part 2 Former City Manager Bill Way: You at least agree, now that he's gone, that he hurt this city, that certainly wasn't the way it was while he was working at the direction of the city council and had it's full support. You want to blame the previous administration? Excuse me? Weren't you a part of the city council that hired him? As a matter of fact, Mike Edmiston, Bill Dempsey and yourself were the three that voted to hire him. Dr. Nick and Larry Adams did not want to hire him. And now you want to blame it on the previous administration? That was you sir!!! If the present city council thought that he was doing so poorly why was he given a new three year contract with a twenty thousand dollar plus per year increase? I worked in industry for many years and I never saw an instance where an individual was given an increase, of any amount, for poor performance. Now that he is gone this administration is using him as the scapegoat. Typical politicians using smoke and mirrors ! The Grand Jury: If you want to talk about the grand jury why don't you talk about all of it? I wasn't aware of what this latest prose was even about. As is standard for this administration most of the citizens were not aware of the nature of the investigation. In this particular case I agree with you. It never should have been presented to them, since nothing had been decided on by the RDA/City Council. Maybe if the RDA/City Council would tell the citizens of this city what is going on, we wouldn't have to rely on rumors and speculation. Why didn't you mention the Grand Jury probe concerning California City Studios? Another Bill Way fiasco backed 100% by the City Council. The problem with this one is that by the time it was done CBS had already given up and went somewhere else. That one was a stone cold loser from the start. Bill Way and the City Council didn't care. You people were going to do it your way and you didn't care how much it hurt California City Studios and this city. I still can't figure out why this company did not sue the city for the money it cost them and to this city. I do admire the Michaels for not backing off and taking a royal shafting from this administration. Religion in Politics: I never mentioned the constitution in my letter, You have taken an entire page to present your, supposed, answer to that point. Again, you and Mayor Evans have taken things out of context and tried to twist my words to divert away from the real issue. You and Mayor Evans have tried to present my words as an attack on the Mormon people. Nothing could be farther from the truth !!!! I will attack any organization, be it religious or otherwise, that's sole purpose seems to be to come in and take over this city. I have to admit that, so far, you've done a pretty good job of it. Just look at how many positions have been filled by Mormons or Friends of Mormons. I agree with you that some them are "Good, Dedicated, Knowledgeable Citizens". I would strongly disagree on some of them though. Some of them don't even attend city council meetings. That's how dedicated they are. Mayor Evans made a statement at the last council meeting:"I have to deal with them. There is a charge that I am a Mormon. Well, I'm guilty as charged." Again, he takes words out of context and twists them to suit his purposes. Our local newspaper printed this. The same newspaper that had refused to print my letter, because of my paragraph headed "Religion in Politics". That's how it works with "Deaver's Diary". He'll print it if he likes it. So much for freedom of the press and free speech in this city. You try to present me as being against Mormons. If that were true why did I vote for you four years ago and for David Evans both times that he ran? There are a lot of us that made that mistake. Believe me, it will not happen again. You were given the chance and you both blew it ! For the last time I will make this statement. I have a real problem that the Main criteria for getting a job on appointed position in this city is that you be a Mormon or friend of Mormons. That just is not right !! New Roads : The citizens of this city pay the special tax for this, yet we see the same ones paved over time and time again. Since we pay for it, why can't we see our neighborhood streets repaired or resurfaced? As I write this letter I notice that the west frontage road on Neuralia is being paved. I wonder how the people that have to drive on Forest feel about that? By-the-way, the streets in my area are fine. The Hotel : Isn't Michael Ellison the man that donated thousands of dollars to get David Evans elected? Isn't he the same man that tried to promote this city and help it grow? Isn't he the same man that, once you and David Evans got what you wanted from him, you kicked him to the curb ? Business Friendly : Had this administration worked with California City Studios, Michael Ellison, Kiewit Corporation, Eagle, Etc. This city could actually be in pretty decent shape, eve with the present economic situation. This administration, to this point in time, has shown nothing even close to being business friendly. The best indicator to the future is to take a good look at the past. It does not look good ! 152 Project : Remember when Dr. Nick sent a letter to the newspaper about buying this project? He didn't get his last statement in because he was limited to 500 words. It went something like this: Stupidity is when you make the same mistake twice and expect the results to be different. That's what he thought of that purchase. Smoke and Mirrors, taking things out of context and twisting words. That's what you guys are all about. You are secretive, you do not answer to the citizens of this community. You do not keep us informed and you don't even care about what we have to say at the council meetings. Mayor Evans is a real stickler about limiting the voices of citizens to 3 minutes. That is, unless you are saying something that he wants to hear or that makes him look good. You guys have changed the time for the meetings to suit yourselves. Never mind the citizens. Who cares that some citizens can't bet there on time because they have businesses to run or that they have to work out of town. Taking care of yourselves. That's what you do best!
